Monica MechlingI like the discription of the people infront of you reminding you of sheep is good and the bleating and I think the assumption he could escape was apt as he was surrounded by Glass and the sort of people who find themselves in the Dock are to some extent egotistical, enough so to assume they could escape.

Monica MechlingHi, I am writing a Rites of Passage novel, or at least I think I am …?
According to the ten Save the Cat story genres, one of the three things the Rites og Passage story requires is a life problem that is «a universal challenge that often results from nothing more than just being alive». Examples are puberty, death etc..
My MC is a teenager struggling to accept that she is just not one of the popular girls. She attacks the problem the wrong way (second requirement for RoP story) by trying everything to befriend the popular girls. In the end she realizes she doesn’t want to be a part of this group, nor does she need to as long as she can accept herself for who she is (third and final requirement).
Now, abviously the second part of the story fits the requirements. What do you guys think about the first part, the life problem? Is wanting to be popular and not accepting yourself otherwise a problem «universal» enough, so to speak, to fit in the Rites of Passage story genre?

Monica MechlingIf you have an urge to go back to one of these stories, please do so and rewrite it. If you have an urge to write another story, please do so and write it. Do not hesitate to let go off things. As someone said earlier, it is part of the process. In all cases, take classes and read books on writing while writing, it helps a lot!

Monica MechlingAfter my wife died I spent 5 years at the botttom of a bottle and to be honest I still drink a lot. I decided to go back to writing and tried to take up where I was in my half finished book. I was pantsing it, so with my brain pickled I had no clue what my plan for it was.
I have now started outlining my books it helps when I'm away from them for a while. I recently went back to the half finished book and salvaged some of it.
